Pompey fail to pay players after Al-Fahim takeover hits cash-flow
PORTSMOUTH insist the squad will be paid today after the club failed to transfer players’ wages earlier this week.
The Premier League’s basement outfit blamed the failure on cash-flow problems caused by Sulaiman al-Fahim’s takeover and subsequent refinancing project.
Portsmouth said in a statement: “There was a delay in the transfer of funds but the lawyers have received confirmation that this will happen today which will enable the players to be paid within the next 24 to 48 hours.”
Manager Paul Hart played down what he called “one of those glitches”, saying: “This group of players are pretty tight and their reaction to this problem was terrific. I don’t think we will be put in this position again.”
