Pietersen flops again as hosts claim farcical draw
KEVIN PIETERSEN failed with the bat once again as England were forced to settle for a draw in their three-day warm-up game with Bangladesh A in Chittagong.
The Hampshire batsman had made just 49 runs in his six previous innings on tour and flopped again after being clean bowled attempting a sweep Mohammad Ashraful when on 20.
The Tigers took the game away from England after making the most of nine overs of pathetic declaration bowling to race to 362-5.
Captain Alastair Cook went for an unbelievable 111 runs off just five overs, while fellow opener Michael Carberry was smashed for 78 off four as Shuvogoto Chowdury (91no off 30 balls) and Dolar Mahmud (66no off 16) went boundary crazy.
It left England with a target of 284 to win but despite cameos from Cook (43rtd) and Tim Bresnan (36), England didn’t get anywhere near as they experimented with their middle order to eke out much-needed time at the crease.
Carberry hit six fours in a well-crafted 35 but that is not likely to be enough to force him into Friday’s Test side following Jonathan Trott’s first innings century.
