Number of customers enquiring about energy provider switches doubles as prices rise
Citizens Advice has announced that the number of energy queries it has received has doubled follow recent price rise announcements.
So far SSE, British Gas and Npower have announced rises of 8.2 per cent, 9.2 per cent and 10.4 per cent respectively. That customers are enquiring about switching provider is clear evidence that many are hunting for a better deal.
As three of the big six suppliers have upped prices, much of the blame has been placed with higher wholesale prices and the burden of government policy.
British Gas said that government initiatives were responsible for nearly half of the £104 increase to the average annual duel fuel bill.
Gillan Guy, chief executive at Citizen Advice said that for many people it will "not be possible to cover the increases without making severe cuts to heating or eating".
