Morgan leaps to Trott’s defence over Vaughan’s conning claim
ENGLAND’S Eoin Morgan has voiced his support for Jonathan Trott, insisting his fellow batsman has “certainly not” let the side down and would be warmly welcomed back into the fold.
Trott was this week accused of “conning” England by former captain Michael Vaughan, after he revealed he quit the Ashes just one match into the winter series because of “burn-out”, not depression.
But Morgan said: “Jonathan has been 100 per cent committed to the side ever since he has come in. He’s a guy who averages 58 [sic] I think in Test cricket and he’s outstanding in one-day stuff as well.”
Stand-in skipper Morgan top scored with 43 as England suffered a demoralising seven-wicket defeat to West Indies in their penultimate warm-up match for the World Twenty20 yesterday. England, who play India today, managed just 131-7 from their innings, which West Indies eclipsed with 23 deliveries to spare following Chris Gayle’s ruthless 58 off 38 balls.
