Middle Eastern visitors to London splash out the most on the city’s luxury hotels
Hotel prices paid by international visitors to the UK jumped last year thanks to tourists from the Middle East paying 67 per cent more for a room than the average rate.
The hotels price index (HPI), a survey by online accommodation provider Hotels.com, revealed that travellers to the UK from the region paid an average £174 per night compared with the average national rate of £104, making them the highest paying visitors, even though this rate was five per cent below the £183 paid in 2013.
Mexico came second in the list of top international spenders, paying an average £143 per night followed by Brazil and the US. Overall, 23 of the 30 nations featured in the index paid more last year, driven by strong demand from holiday-goers.
