May planning counter-terrorism tactics to tackle organised crime
HOME secretary Theresa May is to unveil a major new policy that will call for organised crime to be tackled in the same way as counter-terrorism, City A.M. has learned.
The policy, to be unveiled in a speech shortly before this autumn’s Conservative conference, will help boost May’s party leadership ambitions. She has already impressed Tory backbenchers with her success in cutting immigration numbers while running a department that has ended many political careers.
The new approach will tie in with October’s launch of the National Crime Agency, which will have responsibility for both investigating gangs and for border control.
Last night a source close to May said “big business will be pleased” with the new approach to issues such as large scale fraud.
