Liverpool warn clubs off Alonso and Mascherano
LIVERPOOL have issued a stern hands-off warning to big-spending Spanish clubs chasing their midfield duo Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano.
Alonso is rumoured to be the next name on Real Madrid’s list of galacticos, while Argentinian Mascherano is a reported target of Barcelona.
But Liverpool responded yesterday by issuing a statement in backing boss Rafael Benitez and stressing their determination to keep the pair.
It read: “Despite repeated media speculation on the futures of Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano, Liverpool has received no official approach or offer from any club regarding the players. Neither is for sale and furthermore Liverpool has no interest in the long list of Spanish based players being linked with a move to Anfield as part of any deal.”
