    GOLF: Germany’s Sandra Gal fired a three-under-par 67 to take a one-shot lead going into today’s second round of the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes. Gal leads Korea’s Song-Hee Kim and American Angela Stanford by a single shot while star attraction Michelle Wie is three strokes further adrift.

    CRICKET: Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan is to retire from Test cricket in 2010 after being warned against further damaging his knee.
