It’s a No Show for Davis, the ABI’s new non-recruit
THE ABI, the voice of the UK’s insurance and investment industry, is once again looking for a director of Investment Affairs following the shock decision of Jonathan Davis not to take up the role as agreed in November.
Davis said that his other commitments made it difficult for him to commit sufficiently to the job. Davis is the founder and publisher of an investment publication Independent Investor and a director of a Brazilian farmland project called Agrifirma Services.
Davis said yesterday he was “disappointed” not to be taking up the new role, where he would have succeeded Peter Montagnon. But he added: “I have plenty of other things to do.”
Those with long memories will recall that this is not the first time Davis has inadvertently let down expectant new employers.
In the 1990s the then Independent newspaper’s business editor Chris Huhne (now energy secretary) agreed to make Davis his City Editor only to be told shortly before the starting date that the new recruit would be doing something else instead.
