Insulate Britain protestors cause ‘severe traffic problems in the capital’
Activists from Insulate Britain have launched their eleventh day of protest at four separate sites across London today.
All blockages are expected to hinder the route for commuters travelling in and around London.
UK Country Manager at travel mapping app Waze Ru Roberts warned commuters: “Climate change protests are causing tailbacks in London, with a current blockage of the Blackwall Tunnel bringing average speeds down to just 1mph.
“We are also seeing delays around Hanger Lane and Wandsworth Bridge, with speeds dropping to 2mph and 3mph respectively in the surrounding areas.”
“Add in congestion caused by disruption to fuel supply, and we can expect severe traffic problems in the capital over the next few days. To avoid getting stuck in long queues, we recommend motorists plan their journeys ahead of time.”
It comes despite a government injunction put against them, prohibiting them from blocking traffic following a string of protests on the M25.
The activists are trying to get the government to commit to providing insulation for 29m homes in the UK.
Spokesperson for the group, Craig Scudder told GB News this morning: “We’re carrying on. There’ll be disruption today and I apologise for that but we’re carrying on until the government issues a meaningful statement on how they’re going to address this issue.
“We’re creating jobs, we’re stopping people dying, we’re taking people out of fuel poverty – it really is just a win win win.”
