Hong Kong looks a cracking Bet
FOLLOWING Zac Purton’s great ride on HONG KONG BET a fortnight ago, the crushing experience of being so near yet so far sprung to mind when, from an awkward draw, he couldn’t quite catch Jolly Good Heart in the closing stages, conceding 18lbs
This time, with an inside draw in his favour, the partnership has bright prospects of atoning for that defeat when they line up in the second division of the Hawthorne Handicap (3:15pm).
The Jimmy Ting-trained six-year-old found it hard work earlier in this season, competing against better-class company but nevertheless still producing several creditable efforts, notably just over three lengths seventh to potential top-class Naboo Attack at Sha Tin.
Back in Class 3 company – he has a record of two wins and two seconds from seven runs – his chance is obvious, especially as he is racing from a near similar mark to his last win.
Last start winner Transcendent looks a danger on paper but a form-line through sprinter Alcari gives Hong Kong Bet the clear beating of Tony Cruz’s challenger.
With the likes of Stanley Park, unpredictable Goodluck Goodluck, Family Folks and the Moreira-ridden Rhapsody needing to find plenty on recent form, the main threat should prove to be Telecom Smart.
This consistent four-year-old didn’t enjoy a trouble-free journey behind Hong Kong Bet on his last start but is better drawn this time and importantly has his favourite jockey Karis Teetan back in the saddle again.
