Hic and click: Brits blow £142 during drunken online shopping sprees
What connects a lobster pot, some diving equipment and a washing machine? According to a new study, these are just some of the items Brits have bought online while under the influence.
“Hic-and-click” has apparently become a widespread phenomenon with nearly a quarter of people surveyed by comparison site Confused.com admitting they have spent between £100 and £200 while drunk. On average, Brits spend £142 online while drunk, the research suggests.
Nearly one in 10 of us have gone on a drunken online spending spree, with 4 per cent admitting to having spent more than £500 in one sitting.
Clothes are the most popular purchases, accounting for 36 per cent, with nearly one in five buying new shoes.
But 18 per cent of Brits have bought themselves a holiday while intoxicated.
Although not quite as popular, unusual purchases included 10 lobster pots, a pie maker, diving equipment, a folding ladder and a washing machine.
Most of the drunken spending sprees (53 per cent) took place on Amazon, followed by eBay (50 per cent).
The study was carried out by One Poll Research and surveyed 2,000 people.
