HARDER, BETTER, FASTER, STRONGER | WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE NEW IPHONE
Tim Cook (pictured right) will today make his inaugural speech as full-time chief executive of the world’s biggest technology company, writes Steve Dinneen. He will unveil the iPhone 5, the latest version of the handset that has reinvented the smartphone. Apple is notoriously tight-lipped about its upcoming releases. So what can we expect?
FASTER
Chances are the new iPhone will feature Apple’s latest A5 processor, designed by City A.M. business of the year ARM Holdings, to supercharge the handset.
THINNER
Apple is the master of squeezing more gadget into less space. The first iPad was thin, the second is almost unbelievable. Expect something similar to the iPod Touch.
BETTER CAMERA
The iPhone 4’s five megapixel camera, while a solid piece of kit, has been superseded by the likes of Samsung and Nokia. Expect at least eight megapixels.
THE CLOUD
The iPhone 5 will almost certainly run Apple’s new iOS 5 operating system, meaning it will be fully integrated with Apple’s new cloud computing network.
VOICE RECOGNITION
Voice recognition software has been around for years. The problem is it has never worked very well. If the new iPhone features it, odds on they have finally cracked it.
LONGER BATTERY LIFE
Steve Jobs always insisted that faster products shouldn’t mean sacrificing battery life. The iPhone 5 is likely to improve on its predecessor.
