Green crowned Veuve’s Businesswoman of 2014
HARRIET Green’s trophy case will be struggling to support yet another gong this morning following last night’s Veuve Clicquot Business Woman Award ceremony, with the Thomas Cook chief taking the top prize at the glitzy event at Claridge’s.
By all accounts, the Veuve Award is a good one to bag, if you like bubbles: “I get a vine named after me and a box of champagne every year until I die (which is good as I plan to live to one hundred),” Green told The Capitalist.
The founder of Rubies in the Rubble (or should we say bubbles after all that Veuve?) Jenny Dawson also walked away with an award, taking the New Generation title. Dawson was less lucky in the prize department than Green though. “It’s only a lifetime supply if I drink it really slowly!” laughed Dawson. “I got a crate, but it is pink rose which is my favourite so I’m happy.”
Green and Dawson were joined by previous winner EasyJet’s Carolyn McCall, out and about ahead of her half-year results this morning. “I’m not saying anything,” she laughed when asked if they were good.
Luke Johnson was there, fresh (or not so) from the Patisserie Valerie IPO roadshow. “We closed the books on it today, I needed this glass of champagne,” he said, nodding at his glass. He was chatting to Mr Moshi himself, Michael Acton Smith, who wouldn’t be drawn on news of Mind Candy’s much awaited flotation. He did however express the desire to one day become a Baron. “It sounds naughty, doesn’t it?” he said to The Capitalist. It does indeed.
