NORTHERN TRUST OPENS DOOR TO CHINA
Asset manager Northern Trust announced that it has been granted permission to open a branch office in Beijing. The new office plans to support institutional clients in China with global custody, accounting, compliance and performance management services. The firm has offered services to clients in China since 2005 through its Hong Kong and Singapore offices. In a statement released yesterday, the company said this was part of its plan to boost its Asia Pacific operations.
OBSR ANNOUNCES AWARDS SHORT LIST
Fund management research firm OSBR (owned by independent fund ratings company Morningstar) has announced the shortlist for the Outstanding Fund Manager and Rising Talent awards to be announced at the OBSR Honours Dinner on 9 September. Shortlisted for the Outstanding Fund Manager award are: John Chatfield-Roberts and team (Jupiter Merlin Fund Range), Philip Gibbs (Jupiter Financial Opportunities), Harry Nimmo (Standard Life Investments UK Smaller Companies), Ian Spreadbury (Fidelity Moneybuilder Income) and Hugh Young and team (Aberdeen Asia Pacific). The award is given to the manager or team that has produced exceptional returns over at least 10 years. For the Rising Talent award, four people have been nominated: Cédric de Fonclare (Jupiter European Special Situations), Rob Burnett (Neptune European Opportunities), Philip Rodrigs (Investec UK Smaller Companies) and Sanjeev Shah (Fidelity Special Situations).
INVESTMENT TRUST FORUM
Asset management firm Baillie Gifford is hosting a private investor forum at Westminster Central Hall in London on the afternoon of 7 October. The event, which is free to attend, is aimed at private investors who want to know more about how investment trusts can be used to access global markets. Speakers at the event include The Unwritten Laws of Finance and Investment author Robert Cole. Tom Slater, deputy manager of Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust, who will give an overview of Scottish Mortgage whilst Edward Hocknell, partner at Baillie Gifford, will provide his view on why the economy is booming. There will be a question and answer session and a buffet lunch will be provided.
