Failure to switch off increases work
Smartphone addicts work three extra weeks a year by checking and responding to work emails from home, according to a survey by Good Technology. The study reveals a staggering 93 per cent of people continue working after leaving the office, with 38 per cent claiming their job would be impossible without mobile email. More than a third of the 1,000 people asked said they respond to work emails from bed – the average UK worker checks their phone at 6:51am – while 29 per cent admitted checking emails at the dinner table. “With today’s ‘always on’ society, people are working from the moment they wake up until the moment they fall asleep,” said Good Technology’s Andy Jacques, adding that the work-life balance is also enhanced by being able to choose when and where to work.
