Ex-Channel Five boss Dawn Airey takes Yahoo’s top European gig
FORMER Channel Five supremo Dawn Airey was yesterday appointed as Yahoo’s most senior official for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Airey, who in a long television career also held senior posts at Channel 4, Sky and ITV, will be based in London as a senior vice-president and work in Yahoo’s headquarter in California on a regular basis. “To be part of the Yahoo renaissance was simply irresistible for me,” Airey said.
The former TV provocateur will report directly to Yahoo’s chief operating officer Henrique de Castro and to chief executive Marissa Mayer. Her role will include boosting Yahoo’s brand and growth across the EMEA region. “I can’t wait to work with her,” de Castro said yesterday.
Before heading up Channel Five as CEO, Airey was director of programming and responsible for the station’s infamous roster of controversial shows, such as Naked Jungle, which featured a naked Keith Chegwin.
