England call uncapped Doran-Jones into squad
THE SCALE of England’s injury crisis was laid bare last night when manager Martin Johnson called up Gloucester prop Paul Doran-Jones.
Doran-Jones, who will act as cover for Bath’s David Wilson ahead of Saturday’s clash with Argentina, has represented England Under-18s as well as Ireland Under-19s and Under-21s. But he has scant Premiership experience, having played just 266 minutes since joining Gloucester from Championship outfit London Welsh in the summer.
Tighthead Wilson suffered a shoulder injury during the weekend defeat to Australia. That result was Johnson’s seventh in 12 Tests since taking charge and saw England drop to eighth in the world rankings.
The Pumas’ own injury problems are mounting, after winger Lucas Amorosino emerged as a major doubt. The Leicester star underwent a scan on his calf yesterday after hurting it during the Tigers’ LV= Cup defeat at Leeds on Sunday. Key duo Juan Martin Hernandez and Felipe Contepomi are already sidelined.
