Email addicts? One in three UK office workers check their work email in bed
Do you check your work email around the clock? You’re not alone.
Our email addiction is getting worse, as four in five UK office workers check their work email after leaving the office – and a third even log on before they get out of bed in the morning.
Some 45 per cent even admit to preferring email to having, you know, face-to-face conversations with coworkers (the horror!), according to a study carried out by Adobe, which suggests that “corporate FOMO” (fear of missing out) is the culprit behind our obsessive email checking.
John Watton, marketing director at Adobe, stressed the need for balance:
We do also need to recognise the potential effects of email overload. The self-imposed digital detox seems to be a more accepted way of finding some balance between our work and personal lives.
Some 35 per cent of those surveyed said they’d tried detoxing from email, holding out an average of 5.5 days before falling off the wagon.
