Dominic Raab accused of ‘unacceptable’ behaviour for dodging parliament Brexit committee
Brexit secretary Dominic Raab has been accused of keeping parliament in the dark by refusing to give evidence to a committee on the UK’s negotiations with Brussels.
Raab told the Lords committee on the EU on Tuesday he would not be able to appear before them until after the Brexit deal has been finalised.
Lord Boswell, chair of the committee, reacted with fury to the snub, and in a letter told the Brexit secretary his behaviour was unacceptable.
The former Tory MP said: “Select committees have a job to do. Lack of engagement from the government, keeping us in the dark, means we can’t do that job.
"Brexit was supposed to be about enhancing the role of parliament, not diminishing it – but that message doesn’t seem to have got through to ministers.”
The committee demanded Raab make an appearance before the end of November, claiming his refusal "flies in the face of the commitment in your letter of 17 July, 'to give evidence on a regular basis'."
The Brexit department have been contacted for a comment.
