Company Watch: UK’s publicly-listed retailers in the doldrums
BRITAIN’S largest general retailers are suffering poor financial health at present, according to new research released yesterday by corporate financial health monitoring firm Company Watch.
Company Watch has examined 30 publicly-listed companies in the UK’s general retail sector, assessing their financial health using its H-Score evaluation methodology, which gives each company a score ranging between zero and 100.
The research found that one in three publicly-quoted general retailers is currently in the financial “Warning Area” – much higher than other sectors, which typically have between 10 and 20 per cent of public companies in the “Warning Area”.
General retail companies in the “Warning Area” include: Flying Brands, with an H-Score of just two; European Home Retail (three); Darty (three) Halfords (eight); the AA (12), Beale (13); and Vertue Motors (15).
