Charlotte grabs an awards treat to last all night
The City A.M. awards are fast approaching and with the shortlists being revealed next week, we thought we’d get the ball rolling by announcing the winner of our competition. We offered one lucky reader the chance to win two tickets to the awards and a night’s stay at the venue, Grange St Paul’s Hotel.
We’ve pulled a name out of a hat and we can reveal Credit Suisse analyst Charlotte Slaney-Smith is the winner. In order to qualify, Slaney-Smith had to do some work first. We asked entrants to submit their nominations for the various award categories. While we’ve got to keep shtum about the names on the shortlist, we can talk through some of Slaney-Smith’s suggestions. Brownie points coming her way, she nominated Credit Suisse chief exec Brady Dougan as personality of the year.
“The way he dealt with the US tax fine earlier this year was fantastic. He kept his focus and lead us through it,” she told The Capitalist. “His outlook on talent is also very refreshing, starting the Grow Your Own campaign for nurturing staff and of course, his marathon time is a real inspiration.”
Seems like a robust argument. Slaney-Smith nominated Uber for most innovative company, “I started using it in New York and I think it’s a fantastic idea,” she told us. And how about her own category, analyst of the year? She’s gone for Wall Street legend Charles “Brad” Hintz. “I’ve personally found him inspiring and insightful this year,” she adds.
Well, should he win, we’re sure he can afford the plane ticket…
■ Imagine if you could combine fancy dress, a slightly boisterous sport and giving to charity. Well, thanks to Bowmark Capital investment manager Guy Yarrow, you can. His charity dodgeball tournament takes place this Saturday in support of Mencap and, at £30 a head, it’s a steal. “We wanted to create a fundraiser that was bit different to the usual black tie affairs,” he told The Capitalist. “We have had aliens turn up in homemade space ships, the Flintstones rocked up with the whole family driving a cardboard Flintstones car and we have even had stewardesses drop in with their own plane,” he told us. The challenge is laid. Can you go one better?
