The chairman and former chief executive of US property and casualty insurer Travelers has died aged 63.
Jay Fishman helmed the firm from 2004, stepping down as chief executive last year.
In 2014, Fishman revealed that he had been diagnosed with a neuromuscular condition and that he might have been battling a variant of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
As well as helming Travelers following its 2004 merger with St Paul Companies, Fishman held several executive roles at Citigroup – including running Travelers prior to the bank's decision to spin it off.
Fishman also served as chairman of the board of New York City Ballet and was a board member for the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
Travelers chief executive Alan Schnitzer said yesterday: "Though he would be too humble to admit it, Jay was an icon among corporate leaders.”
