Cardiff crunch tie off as Ritchie wants England battle at home
RUGBY Football Union chief executive Ian Ritchie has moved quickly to reject a proposal from Wales to play their 2015 Rugby World Cup pool clash against England in Cardiff.
Host nation England were drawn with Wales, Australia and two qualifiers, prompting Welsh Rugby Union boss Roger Lewis to suggest the crunch match should be played at the Millennium Stadium, especially as part of the RFU’s bid included Cardiff hosting up to eight matches.
“We have a very nice home of our own and I would hope very much we would contemplate playing the match here,” said Ritchie. “We will not get a better opportunity to inspire people to play rugby, volunteer and participate in rugby.”
