Candidates jockey for shadow cabinet
ED Miliband will offer his brother the job of shadow chancellor if he emerges victorious in tomorrow’s leadership election, according to campaign insiders.
David Miliband was seen as a shoo-in for the leader’s job before younger sibling Ed threw his hat into the ring, and friends say he could quit politics if he misses out on the crown.
But Ed Miliband hopes he can keep David in politics by making him shadow chancellor. Labour MPs are worried that a shock resignation could overshadow the party conference at a time when they should be fighting back against the coalition.
If David?Miliband were to become shadow chancellor it would be a major blow for Ed Balls, who also has designs on the job.
