Businesses fear they could lose £1bn due to World Cup skiving
BUSINESSES fear they could lose up to £1bn in lost working days thanks to the World Cup.
More than half of employers surveyed by the Chartered Management Institute’s (CMI) said they are worried about staff being distracted by online coverage of the tournament.
A further two in five believe employees will take unauthorised time off to watch matches.
More than half of employees think those employees who show up to work will be diverted from their duties by endless conversations about the tournament.
However, only one per cent of employees polled said they would consider calling in sick because of the World Cup and 60 per cent said “work comes first” no matter how their team is performing.
