Banned Amir defends club appearance
BANNED Pakistan bowler Mohammad Amir has denied flouting his suspension and insists he did no wrong in turning out for a club team in Surrey.
Amir, 19, was banned for five years for the part he played in the spot-fixing scandal that marred last summer’s Test series against England. But Amir appears to have contravened the terms of his ban by playing for Addington 1743 in the Surrey League.
“I’m not stupid enough to play in a match where I knew that I would be taking a risk,” said the player. “I was informed by club representatives before the game that it was a friendly match at a privately owned ground.”
