Budget: Political artist Kaya Mar gives us a sneak preview of his latest work
AS USUAL, all eyes will be on the House of Commons today for George Osborne’s Budget. But there’s a new tradition emerging that might draw the crowds outside parliament too. Artist Kaya Mar has become a regular fixture outside both Downing Street and Westminster during the Budget, showing off his politically inspired portraits. He has kindly given The Capitalist a sneak preview of the painting he’ll be wielding today (pictured). “I’m an artist and I like to see the world through satire,” he told The Capitalist. “Satire is a very dangerous medium for rulers and also I like to make people smile and think.” Mar told us he plans to one day hold an exhibition of all his paintings. Somehow we doubt any of his works will be hanging in Number 11 any time soon.
