THOMAS Cook boss Harriet Green let her experience of running electronics company Premier Farnell shine through yesterday. Green, who had never worked in the travel industry before joining Thomas Cook in 2012, tweeted an article about girls learning to code in a day (amid the madness of TC’s first quarter results). “Brilliant idea – have all my team doing it. Essential for a digital leader,” she tweeted. And it seems she meant it. “My leadership team are all spending a day learning basic code and how to build a web site. Over 30 per cent of the Thomas Cook development team transforming our digital platform are female,….yes, women can code!” she told The Capitalist. You go girl.
A BATTLE of the banks is coming, and we’re not talking about first quarter results, oh no, we’re talking a fighter jet race. Well, a simulated one at least. Breitling has installed a jet simulator in Canada Place, Canary Wharf and is inviting City “high flyers” to battle it out from 19 to 21 February – with the winners getting to fly with the real Breitling Jet team in Dijon later this year. It’s all an elaborate ploy to show off the Breitling Navitimer watch but with a race simulator and jets involved who are we to complain?
