IF YOU’VE got stacks of £50 notes hidden under your floorboards at home, take heed of the Bank of England’s latest hashtag. The bank’s social media whizzes have been spreading the word about the end of the Houblon £50 note this month using #DonthoardyourHoublons in its tweets. John Houblon of course was the first ever governor of the Bank of England and the kindly gentleman whose face (and impressive wig) have graced our fifties since 1994 but he has been usurped by 19th century steam engine entrepreneurs Matthew Boulton and James Watt.

FOR THOSE of you who’ve got the lycra and the longevity to take part in the annual London to Paris charity cycle in June BUT don’t have a place (it’s sold out) – The Capitalist has caught wind of a few extra places going. The event is always a firm favourite with the City, with Icap one of the official partners, but with only 450 places – it tends to sell out pretty speedily. Stoke Mandeville National Spinal Charity is taking a team of 12 and has four places left. Sasha Dabliz, the charity’s chair (also head of marketing and comms at Cazenove Capital Management) is looking for some more adventurous cyclists to take on the challenge and raise some money in the process. It sounds like quite the experience and with Moët & Chandon one of the event’s official suppliers – we suspect the end of ride party will be one to remember (or at least try to remember). Prospective cyclists should email info@spinalcharity.org for more information.
