While there are some encouraging signs in various aspects of the early stages of the implementation of the group’s strategic plan, we believe a higher level of investor confidence requires positive forecast momentum to underpin Thornton’s progress on its strategic plan.

The strategy to reduce their own stores and grow via franchises has not been successful. The group is struggling to entice franchises despite reducing their fees from £15,000 in 2010 to £5,000 in 2011 to £1,000 now and with half of the set up fees paid.
