Allied Irish Bank boss blocked
Allied Irish Bank (AIB) is on a collision course with the Irish government over its proposed appointment of director Colm Doherty as chief executive of the bank. AIB chairman Dan O’Connor proposed Doherty at a meeting with finance minister Brian Lenihan last week, but Lenihan is understood to be keen that the appointment does not come from within the bank. AIB has been looking for a new chief executive since Eugene Sheehy said in April that he intended to step down.
