London’s new front door for growth opens in the Square Mile.
While the Square Mile is smaller than many parks, you might be surprised to know it supports 676,000 jobs and generates over £109bn of economic output a year [ONS].
Indeed, national growth happens when businesses choose to invest, when talent chooses to come in, when visitors choose to spend time, and when places make it easier for opportunity to become delivery.
That is the point of London’s new Business Visitor Centre at Guildhall: a visible, practical front door for businesses, investors and international delegations looking to locate, scale and grow in the capital. This is a clear signal from the City that the UK’s growth mission depends on London playing its part.
The Centre was announced at this week’s London Real Estate Forum, where decision-makers from across property, investment, government and business come togethe. It has been designed to be more than just new facility. It is Destination City in action: creating the conditions for investment, confidence, jobs and footfall by making the Square Mile more visible, more welcoming and easier to do business in.
Delivered by the City Corporation in partnership with the Mayor of London, the Business Visitor Centre will give global investors a clearer route into London’s opportunity pipeline, the right networks and the support they need to move from interest to action.
It will also strengthen the City Business and Investment Unit’s concierge-style support for new and existing occupiers and investors, helping firms navigate the Square Mile’s business support offer and giving London a sharper, more coordinated proposition in the global race for capital, talent and confidence.
The Business Visitor Centre mission
The Business Visitor Centre will support ministerial visits, international delegations, investor briefings, business events and high-value conversations with firms considering where to locate, scale or invest. With meeting rooms, exhibition space, digital presentation facilities and the internationally recognised London models, it will bring the capital’s growth story to life — from major development opportunities and infrastructure to the talent, culture, connectivity and experience that make London globally competitive.
Crucially, it creates a stronger shared platform for Team London. Working with New London Architecture, Opportunity London, London & Partners, the City Corporation’s Business and Investment Unit and wider inward-investment partners, the Centre will help align activity, reduce duplication and give businesses a simpler way into London’s support ecosystem.
For investors, that means a better experience. For London, it means a stronger offer. For the UK, it means a more direct route to the international capital, partnerships and confidence that underpin jobs, productivity and long-term growth.
Square Mile success
The Square Mile is one of the UK’s most important economic assets: a global business district where world-leading firms, specialist talent, trusted institutions, culture, heritage, public spaces, hospitality and connectivity sit side by side.
But that success cannot be taken for granted. In a competitive global market, places have to work harder to win investment, attract talent and remain relevant.
Destination City is the City Corporation’s response: a programme of collective action to make the Square Mile more open, inclusive, vibrant and compelling for the people and businesses that drive its success.
That means joining up the things that shape confidence and competitiveness: planning, transport, public realm, culture, policing, business support, skills, communications and promotion. These are not “nice to have” interventions. They are the conditions that help turn global interest into investment, footfall, jobs and growth.
If the UK is serious about growth, London has to be able to compete. And London’s ability to compete depends on practical interventions like this: places that welcome investors, connect partners, showcase opportunity and make it easier to choose the capital.
The Business Visitor Centre is a new front door for that ambition — reinforcing the Square Mile’s role in London’s success, and London’s role in the UK’s future prosperity.
