THE SCOTTISH government rejected the Treasury’s proposed in-year budget cuts yesterday.

Following a meeting in London with chancellor George Osborne and chief secretary to the Treasury Greg Hands, Scottish deputy first minister John Swinney said the proposed £107m cut for Scotland was “too bitter a pill to swallow”.

It is understood that the Scottish government will have the option to defer the cut by one year, until 2016- 2017.
