Worker killed as part of building at 20 Grosvenor Square collapses
A MAN has died and another was injured after part of a building collapsed at 20 Grosvenor Square in central London yesterday.
The man died while he was working on the West End site, which was bought by Abu Dhabi Investment Council last year and was being converted by luxury developer Finchatton into a residential scheme.
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said that they had been called to the square where the US embassy is located at 3.45pm. One worker was pronounced dead at the scene while a second man was treated for minor injuries and taken to University College Hospital.
Declan Sherry, chief executive of McGee, the contractor responsible for the site, said: “Work on site has been suspended and we are of course working closely with the investigating authorities to ensure that a full inquiry is conducted into this tragic incident.”
