Westminster Bridge re-opened after closure due to a “suspicious vehicle”
Westminster Bridge was re-opened today after nothing suspicious was found in a vehicle that had been abandoned near the Houses of Parliament.
Metropolitan Police said in a tweet: "Westminster Bridge will be re-opened shortly after officers dealt with an abandoned vehicle. Nothing suspicious found."
The bridge was closed off this afternoon in both directions as police investigated an abandoned smart car.
SNP MP, Steward McDonald, tweeted that they'd also shut off part of the Commons Library and Terrace.
Once the incident had been called off, one passersby tweeted: "Someone just parked their car on #WestminsterBridge – bomb scare, robot, closure the lot. Now being escorted sheepishly back to car…"
Another said: "Some fella left his smartcar on Westminster Bridge and caused this. His car clearly smarter than him."
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told City A.M. that they were initially called to the scene at around 3pm this afternoon.
