Wayne warned but Fergie’s off the hook
WAYNE ROONEY has been warned over his future conduct by Football Association chiefs after a remark made in front of a television camera at the weekend.
Rooney received a dressing down from the FA after appearing to mouth the words “12 men” at a camera as he walked off the Stamford Bridge pitch – a protest at the performance of referee Martin Atkinson in Chelsea’s 1-0 victory.
An FA spokesman confirmed: “Rooney has been warned as to his future conduct following remarks made yesterday.”
Meanwhile, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who was also highly critical of Atkinson’s decisions, will not face any action from FA chiefs for his post-match comments.
Ferguson described the decision to award the free-kick that led to John Terry’s winning goal as “absolutely ridiculous” and said decisions of that kind had caused managers and players to “lose faith in refereeing”.
“The referee’s position to make the decision for the goal was absolutely ridiculous,” he raged. “He can’t see anything. It was a bad decision.”
But Ferguson, who is already in hot water with FA chiefs over comments made towards referee Alan Wiley last month, will face no further action.
