Wasps breeze past Harlequins to surge into league’s top four
WASPS boosted their chances of making the play-offs by storming past Harlequins 37-6 at the Ricoh Arena yesterday to move fourth in the Premiership table.
Departing wing Tom Varndell, centre Elliot Daly and two penalty try awards secured Wasps’ bonus-point victory as Andy Goode added 15 with the boot, while Nick Evans kicked two penalties for the visitors.
Full-back Chris Wyles, hooker Jamie George and wing Chris Ashton all crossed the line, while Alex Goode kicked 16 points, as Saracens beat second-placed Bath 34-24 at Allianz Park to maintain the pressure on leaders Northampton.
Bath failed to record a bonus point despite Semesa Rokoduguni touching down twice and Olly Woodburn once, while Mike Ford’s side lie five points behind Northampton and Saracens trail by a further four in third place.
London Welsh remain winless this season after succumbing 52-12 to Sale at the Kassam Stadium, with scrum-half Rob Lewis – making his 100th appearance for the club – and Leicester-bound Opeti Fonua scoring for the hosts.
