Vuelta champion Horner’s team vow to sue over anti-doping row
RADIOSHACK team officials threatened to sue Spanish anti-doping chiefs and insisted there had been a mix-up after newly-crowned Vuelta a Espana winner Chris Horner was accused of missing a drug test.
The 41-year-old American was yesterday targeted by testers, the morning after he became the oldest man to win one of cycling’s three Grand Tours, who said they could not find him.
But his team said the testers had gone to the wrong hotel as Horner had switched accommodation to be with his wife and notified the relevant authorities in case an out-of-competition sample was needed.
RadioShack added: “The team believes the communication between the Spanish Anti-Doping Agency and the media is a violation of the privacy of Chris Horner, especially since it comes down to a clear mistake by the tester. The team will seek compensation for this matter with the responsible anti-doping agencies.”
Meanwhile, Germany’s Gerald Ciolek leads the Tour of Britain after winning the second stage.
