Villa set to frustrate Liverpool at Anfield
TOMORROW’S late kick off pits Liverpool against Aston Villa at Anfield and I’m keen to oppose Brendan Rodgers’ team at heavy odds-on.
Liverpool are rarely a team to trust at short prices because of their inconsistency. A 3-1 reverse at the hands of Man City was followed by a brilliant 3-0 win at Tottenham and which Liverpool turns up tomorrow is anyone’s guess.
Though some might point to the quality of Villa’s opposition they have played so far, seven points and one goal conceded from three games is a solid start in anyone’s book, particularly as many pundits were tipping them to go down.
Paul Lambert’s men also have a habit of frustrating Liverpool, with the Reds having to come back from two down to eventually draw 2-2 last term here. And Villa went one better the season before, triumphing 3-1.
Lambert also boasts an enviable record of never losing at Anfield in his managerial career – albeit from only three visits ─ having also defied the odds with Norwich.
The 5/1 for a draw with Ladbrokes is big. Spread bettors should oppose the hosts with Sporting Index, selling their supremacy at 1.65. The traders in Kennington are expecting goals in this one, but I’d be a seller at 3.15. Daniel Sturridge is injured and Mario Balotelli was wasteful on his debut.
Combined with Villa’s stubborn defence and this is unlikely to be a goalfest. It is interesting to note, though, that Steven Gerrard has scored 12 times against these opponents. The Reds skipper is 11/8 with Titanbet to score anytime.
