Unlikely lifeline for stricken Portsmouth
THE fortunes of Portsmouth FC – from FA Cup victory to administration in just two years – have been akin to a soap opera.
Now a reality TV star says he can change their fortunes. Rob Lloyd, a Cheshire based property tycoon who starred in Channel 4 hit Secret Millionaire, says he is preparing to make a £70m bid. He will offer £10m upfront and a New York hedge fund will absorb the club’s £60m debts.
However, the club’s administrator yesterday cast doubt over the deal, saying he is yet to be officially contacted.
The club embarked on a cost-cutting drive last week, with 85 members of staff being made redundant and chief executive Peter Storrie stepping down.
