Unemployment falls to 2.51m as employment rate rises
The number of people out of work fell 49,000 to 2.51m over the three months to September, as the employment rate jumped again.
The employment rate for the third quarter was 71.2 per cent, up 0.2 per cent on the previous quarter, according to official figures from the Office for National Statistics.
The ONS said this morning that there were 29.58m people in employment over the three months, up 100,000 from the previous quarter.
However, the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in October rose by 10,00 month on month to 1.58m.
