Tube strikes to cause two weeks of commuter chaos
LONDON commuters are facing two weeks of abject misery after the firebrand Tube union announced a wave of strikes, called over the sacking of two drivers.
The RMT yesterday said its drivers would stage three walkouts lasting between nine and 24 hours from Monday 16 May to 20 May, followed by a further three walkouts from Monday 13 June to Friday 17 June. The timing of the strikes will ensure much of the network is crippled for the whole two weeks.
The strikes come amid an escalating row over the recent sacking of two drivers. One driver has been accused of intimidating Tube staff who chose not take part in recent walkouts. The RMT claimed it had a “massive” mandate for the strike, but just 29 per cent of union members voted in favour.
