Trott excited by return to London 2012 velodrome
OLYMPIC champion Laura Trott is hoping for another capacity crowd this weekend when she makes an emotional first competitive return to her favourite track: London’s velodrome.
Trott, who won gold in both the team pursuit and omnium during the 2012 Games, is set to race in the final round of the Revolution Series at the first event at the reopened Lee Valley VeloPark from tomorrow.
“I have so many happy memories here,” said the Harlow 21-year-old. “It’s nice to bring my parents back because they haven’t been back since the day I won in the omnium. And this track: I can’t wait for it to be full again.”
Trott – an ambassador for the VeloPark, which opens to the public later this month and also includes BMX, mountain biking and road racing facilities – is targeting more gold at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
