Travelodge to create 1,000 jobs as part of £100m expansion plan
BUDGET hotel chain Travelodge announced plans yesterday to open 15 hotels this year under a £100m investment programme that will create over 1,000 jobs.
The group said five of the hotels will open in London, bolstering its position as the biggest hotel chain in the capital, where it will have 65 sites by the end of the year.
New hotels will also open in other city centres including Glasgow, Manchester and seaside destinations including Southport.
The new openings will take Travelodge’s estate to a net 514 hotels and more than 39,000 rooms across the country. The group said it also plans to revamp a further 11,800 rooms as part of the investment plan at a cost of £37m.
Chief executive Peter Gowers, who replaced Travelodge’s longstanding boss Grant Hearn in December, said: “During the last year we modernised more than 200 of our hotels across the country and we are on schedule to transform the majority of our portfolio by this autumn.”
He said the group aims “to boost local economies” by hiring 1,000 new staff to support its expansion.
