Tories extend lead in polls
THE TORIES have extended their lead over Labour after Alistair Darling’s Budget failed to impress voters, according to two opinion polls.
A YouGov poll for the Sun puts the Tories seven points clear of Labour on 39 per cent (up two), with Labour unchanged at 32 per cent and the Liberal Democrats down one at 18 per cent.
And a ComRes poll commissioned by the Independent also gave the Tories a seven point lead on 37, against Labour’s 30 per cent and the Lib Dems’ 20.
But a YouGov survey carried out for Channel 4 before last night’s chancellors’ debate saw Vince Cable top the poll with 26 per cent, compared to 17 per cent for Darling and just 12 per cent for George Osborne.
