Topps Tiles appoints Poundland’s Shapland as its next chairman
TILING specialist Topps Tiles yesterday announced that Poundland chair Darren Shapland will become its chairman after current chair Michael Jack announced his retirement.
Jack, who has served as Topps’ chairman since 1999, will step down on 18 March, handing the reins to Shapland.
As well as Poundland, Shapland is also chairman of Maplin Electronics, non-executive director and chairman of the audit committees of both Ladbrokes and Wolseley.
He has previously served as chair of Sainsbury’s Bank and chief executive of Carpetright.
Topps chief executive Matthew Williams said on Shapland’s appointment: “His many years of experience with some of the leading retailers in the UK, including a number within the home improvement market, will be of great benefit to Topps as we home in on our target of one third of the market and consider our future strategic direction.”
