Times tables tests at age 11 – but how well do you know them? Take this quiz to find out
Kids will be taking tests for the first time using technology rather than traditional pen and paper after government plans for times tables tests at 11 were revealed.
Kids will be tested before they leave primary school in on-screen exams that will also be timed, with scores given instantly. Around 3,000 pupils in 80 schools will be the first to trial the test before being rolled out nationwide in 2017.
“Maths is a non-negotiable of a good education. Since 2010, we’ve seen record numbers of 11-year-olds start secondary school with a good grasp of the three Rs. But some continue to struggle," said education minister Nicky Morgan. “That is why, as part of our commitment to extend opportunity and deliver educational excellence everywhere we are introducing a new check to ensure that all pupils know their times tables by age 11. They will help teachers recognise those pupils at risk of falling behind and allow us to target those areas where children aren’t being given a fair shot to succeed.”
Those aged 11 will need to know multiplication up to 12 x 12 to pass, but, how well do you know yours? Test out how well you might do in the quiz below. We'll ease you in gently…
