THREE OTHER SUPPERCLUB-STYLE RESTAURANTS
PROUD CABARET
Modelled on a 1920s Hollywood supperclub, this City venture offers well-sourced British food from a set menu, a heapin’ helpin’ of atmosphere (think velvet curtains, gilded booths and girls in flapper dresses) and burlesque, jazz or cabaret as you eat your slow roast pork belly and Neal’s Yard cheese and sip fine wine. 1 Mark Lane, EC3R 7AH, tel: 207 283 1940.
SUPPERCLUB
Incredibly hard to find, but once you’re in there, the no-holds-barred glamour of the place will knock your socks off. You eat reclining on white beds, and entertainment ranges from the acrobatic to the static: on my visit there was a man doing a clay model of another man, posed shirtless on a block. All very avant-garde. 12 Acklam Road, W10 5QZ, tel: 020 8964 6600.
THE BRICKHOUSE
This Brick Lane venue has been doing the supperclub thing for a while now, and offers nightly entertainment over dinner – the night I went there was an astonishing duo of trapeze artists in brilliant white outfits, a contortionist and a rather irritating (but entertaining) MC. DJs start up from 10pm Thurs-Sat. 152c Brick Lane, E1 6RU, tel: 020 7247 0005.
