the INSIDER
THIS IS my least favourite time of year. The nights are drawing in, I’ve had to get my coat down from the attic, but worst of all, the flat season is coming to an end. We still have a couple of weeks of top class action though and it doesn’t get much better than Champions Day at Newmarket tomorrow. The totesport.com Cesarewitch (3.40pm) is one of the most competitive handicaps of the year and I’ll be having a small each-way bet on David Pipe’s RASLAN. His father Martin won this race twice in the space of three years in the early ‘Noughties’ and Pipe, Hobbs and Henderson have won five of the last nine renewals.
The main bet of the day though is Sir Michael Stoute’s TABASSUM in the Rockfel Stakes (4.15pm). I was hugely impressed with the way she won the Oh So Sharp Stakes last time and I fancy her to make it three career wins out of three on a course she clearly loves.
